Hi-easter 4 day long weekend here in Australia from tomorrow- which means hot cross buns and chocolate- but you can still indulge and be healthy- experiment with some hot cross bun ingredients to try in your green smoothies this weekend… yeah chocolate included!
Look at all the great greens rabbits eat- no wonder they breed like…well you know…carrot tops, beet greens, bok choy, celery, collard greens, dandelion greens, endive, escarole, kale, mustard greens, parsley, radish tops, red leaf lettuce, cos lettuce, spinach, watercress, wheat grass
and the hot cross bun flavours- grapes or sultanas/raisins, orange and piece of rind, frozen blueberries or mixed berries
cranberry juice, dates, pineapple (fresh or dried) cinnamon, chopped ginger, grated nutmeg and chocolate of course- it wouldn’t be this time of year without it. I use raw cacao nibs and grind them in the coffee grinder to powder for smoothies- cacao nibs? no not a spelling mistake -cacao nibs are chopped up raw choc beans before they are processed and turned into chocolate with all the fillers like sugar and dairy- it is pretty intense, dark and bitter. It is the best in blended frozen banana dates molasses chocolate ice cream….
cacao is loaded with antioxidants, more than red wine, blueberries and 4 x more than green tea! You can also buy cacao powder. Cacao is also a feel good food/mood enhancer too-increases levels of chemicals like serotonin and endorphin’s. You may have to increase the sweetness of your smoothie if you use cacao or you can just use normal chocolate…or throw in some choc or carob Easter eggs or rabbits or bilbies- enjoy!
